Well I do take offense to White people loc’ing their hair because it is apart of Black cultures. Locs originated in Egypt and Europeans originally referred to them as “dreadlocks” because they saw the hairstyle as dreadful. Also locs are a big part of the Rastafarian culture, which is a movement in the name of Black power because Blacks and other POC had white/western religion and beliefs forced onto us at one point. With all of that said when I see a white person with dreads it’s almost like damn, Black people created somethng for ourselves and we can’t even have it for ourselves?? Not to mention White/fine hair doesn’t even loc properly.
Now with yarn braids, People can put whatever they want in their hair but White women seem have the more fun/playful/cyndi lauper look with yarn braids.
and as for Box Braids and other similar styles I have seen white women with braids who look nice but the braids slip very easily.
Basically do what you want with your hair but do not appropriate a culture, do not offend, and do not prance around with someone else’s struggle as a fashion trend pretending that you’ve discovered something new.
